Filmmaker, photographer and designer
London-based creative Jack Ogden turns his focus back to a lost passion for pen and (digital) paper with reMarkable Paper Pure.
With over ten years experience in the film and photography industry, BA (Hons) graduate Jack Ogden has built a career on capturing the visual world.
After years of working in a purely digital landscape, he has regained his love for the tactile nature of handwriting. By using a device with digital powers and a paper feel, Jack has found the perfect medium to take his ideas and work further.

Paper feel, digital powers.
“Phones feel too static and confined. Using this device is like rediscovering my old uni sketchbooks, it’s that paper-to-pen sensation I’ve missed. It’s replaced hectic notes with a space to doodle, and explore visual ideas naturally, without the pressure of getting them wrong.”

No apps, no pop ups, no notifications.
“No social media or pings is amazing. On a phone, one notification ruins my thought process. I love that this ‘specific’ product doesn’t sacrifice my writing experience. It lets me leave my other devices at home, go to a café, and just focus on writing without distractions.”
One of the reasons reMarkable Paper Pure has made such an impact on Jake’s work is that it allows him to get things wrong before it actually matters. As he puts it, “the final result improves dramatically” because the device helps reiterate your initial thoughts. So if you mess about and play with ideas on your tablet first, you turn up to set with way more confidence.

Where ideas come together
“When I hit a creative block, drawing shapes lets me turn my brain off and build ideas. I hadn’t used a sketchbook in 10 years, but this kind of tech slips into my work and gives me the freedom to play around. The folder system keeps me organized and clutter-free, it's a win-win.”

Sharing ideas, instantly
“Visualizing storyboards is the biggest change for me. Showing an idea is so much more powerful than just explaining it. I can now annotate sketches, move or scale elements, and ping them over via email instantly. It offers a level of precision and flexibility paper just can't.”
Jake really appreciates the tactile nature of the device, finding the pen’s texture against the screen far more satisfying than he expected. He says: “It hits a perfect balance: just enough analog to feel natural, yet enough tech to feel professional.”
