UNESCO

A UN agency that aims to promote world peace and security through international cooperation education, arts, science, and culture.

What’s the problem?

UNESCO’s work is often heavy when it comes to meetings and documents. Staff rely on notebooks, often owning shelves of them, but can only carry a couple at a time.

Digital devices weren’t always allowed in every setting due to security issues, and laptops during discussions often led to distractions. Notes were scattered, important details got lost, and printing documents mean a lot of paper waste.

“I have more than 25 years of Moleskines, but can only take one or two with me.”

The devices: reMarkable 2 and reMarkable Paper Pro.

For employees, these paper tablets kept everything organized in one place. Notes were structured and easy to find, and handwriting could be turned into text with a tap. In meetings and conferences, reMarkable became all they needed. It encouraged focus, distraction-free thinking, and is light to carry. And a heritage of information could be kept intact.

For field staff, long battery life and the ability to use it offline makes it a reliable tool anywhere, even without Wi-Fi or regular charging. And because reMarkable has no camera or recording functions, it was approved in secure environments where other devices weren’t allowed.

“It's both useful and delightful. In meetings or in conferences it’s all you need, to have your papers and talking points, take notes, jot down ideas, and stay focused, seeing as it doesn’t have the distractions of phones or laptops.”

-UNESCO employee

“Now in meetings, I’m not behind a laptop being interrupted by emails. I take all my notes on my reMarkable, and I’m more focused. Meetings are quicker and straight to the point, and often 15 minutes shorter.”

-Yasmina, UNESCO employee
