We’ve had tons to tell you about typing recently.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve rolled out software updates that let you add typed text to your notes on reMarkable for the first time. And if you subscribe to Connect, you can now also take and edit notes in the reMarkable mobile and desktop apps.

Today, we’re unveiling another part of the reMarkable typing experience. This is Type Folio, a slim keyboard for comfortable, focused typing on reMarkable 2. It’s our most powerful accessory yet.

We want to give you the ability to tap into the distraction-free qualities of paper from anywhere. Pen strokes, keystrokes, or seamlessly switching between the two, the way you work is up to you.

We’ve designed a whole ecosystem of hardware and software to make it possible.

Type Folio. Focused typing comes to reMarkable 2.

Unless you work exclusively on a typewriter, maybe you associate typing with a browser tab sandwiched between your music streaming service and your email. Or a slow application that constantly interrupts you with grammar suggestions.

We think typing can be better than that.

The new Type Folio brings physical keyboard support to reMarkable 2 for the first time. It provides a great typing experience when you need it, and smart, sturdy protection when you don't.

It’s slim, with a barely-there footprint that could easily be mistaken for a protective folio. It’s comfortable, with a keyboard that features full-size letter keys and 1.3 mm of key travel — more than many popular laptops. And it’s simple. It connects automatically to reMarkable 2 with magnets, requiring no additional pairing, charging, or updating.

When you want to use the keyboard, Type Folio opens to two fixed positions: a traditional typing position, and a near-flat position that's perfect for combining typed text and handwritten notes — which we call Free Create. When you want to read or write with the Marker, the front cover opens all the way around so it touches the back cover, like our Book Folio.

We’ve reimagined our software to make typing feel like it’s always been part of reMarkable. Your paper tablet detects when you open the keyboard and automatically rotates the display, enabling you to switch quickly and seamlessly between handwriting and typing. Handwritten text anchors intelligently to typed text, ensuring that scribbled and typed notes stay connected even as you move text up and down on a page.

We poured countless hours into getting the paper-like feel of reMarkable 2 just right. You better believe we did the same with typing on Type Folio.

Better paper. Better focus.

With the launch of Type Folio, typed text on the paper tablet, and typing in our apps, let’s take a step back and talk about what we’re building toward, and what it means for you.

Focus is a fickle thing. Sometimes you find it when you least expect it. Maybe you’ve experienced having a minor epiphany on the train home from work, so you capture the idea by noting it down on your phone. Or maybe you’ve sat down with your laptop to write and found that the words flow effortlessly. When you next pick up your coffee, it’s gone cold.

We want to make it possible not just to seize these moments of focus, but to sustain them.

Sometimes that means reaching for your paper tablet. Other times it might mean grabbing your phone to jot down a single thought, or sitting down to draft a longer text.

reMarkable now supports all of those workflows — and more. Take handwritten notes on your paper tablet, convert them to text, and review them in the desktop app — or on your reMarkable 2 with Type Folio. Type out an agenda in the desktop app, add another bullet point to it in the mobile app, and then bring it on your paper tablet for a distraction-free meeting.

Paper tablet, apps, Marker, Type Folio. Maybe you can already imagine a combination that fits your workflow?

Future software updates will add more features, and we’ll tweak the experience based on your feedback. We’re excited to hear what you think.

Your notes, your way

Everything about typing on reMarkable has been designed to stay true to the focused, distraction-free experience that you know from your paper tablet. From the pared-down physical design of Type Folio, which only highlights the letter keys, to the minimalistic formatting options on the paper tablet and in the apps, nothing gets in the way of you and your thoughts.

Since you first picked up your reMarkable — whether it was a few weeks, months, or even years ago — you’ve known your paper tablet as a tool for note-taking, reading, and reviewing documents.

reMarkable is more than that. With our desktop and mobile apps, it’s an ecosystem of focus tools that gives you access to your notes no matter where you are or what device you’re working on. And with Type Folio, it’s a portable workspace that enables you to stay focused for longer and achieve meaningful breakthroughs.
